IKEA BOAXEL Closet for a Girl

IKEA BOAXEL CLOSET FOR A GIRL'S BEDROOM - Blog Banner

If you’ve been a visitor or follower of mine for any length of time, you’ll probably know that we use the IKEA BOAXEL Closet System in our closets. As part of my February House to Home Project, I reset three IKEA closets in our home to get them to their finished state (finally)! I’ve recently shared how I rearranged our boys’ BOAXEL closet system since they are now sharing a bedroom. Now it’s time to share how I setup the IKEA BOAXEL Closet System for a girl!

A Dual-Purpose Space

Here is the initial build out when we installed the closet system a couple of years ago. When we initially installed the closet system, the room was dual-purposed – part nursery, part toddler girl’s room. This version of the closet served us well for that short-ish phase of time. The left side was dedicated to our daughter’s items, and the right side was for our new baby boy.

A Fresh Start

Now that we have the boys in a shared room, it was time to reset G’s closet, fully dedicated to her things.

Since completing our house renovation, which included all of our bedrooms, it’s been a goal of mine to get rid of all dressers and keep as much off the floor as possible (easier cleaning). I’d much prefer to have the space in our bedrooms, and I like an “open concept” closet that is easy to access in an effort to raise more independent kiddos! This also keeps our item count in check because there are spatial boundaries in place.

Now that we’re done having children, I am feeling a bit grateful that I have just one sweet girl on my hands because I can definitely attest to the fact that girls have more items to manage than boys. Being a girl myself, you’d think I was on to this already. LOL

From toys, to hair care, to clothing items, girls have lots of tiny parts, accessories, and articles of clothing to manage and store. While I still try to keep things fairly minimal for all of the kids’ wardrobes, I think this is just the name of the game when it comes to girl life! All that being said, I’m grateful it’s the boys sharing a closet as opposed to two girls!

The closet reset in my girl’s room turned out great, with plenty of breathing room! I even had space to spare for her dress up clothes (far right)! You can see more of the process of this closet reset in a reel on my IG account. It does take a bit of time to reset the IKEA BOAXEL closet systems, but the versatility it worth it!

How I organized this girl’s IKEA BOAXEL Closet

Okay, so find it very helpful to see how other people organize closets and spaces, so I created this graphic below to help you visualize how I store items within the space. Let’s take a deep dive into this closet:

Other ways I use the IKEA BOAXEL Closet System

Okay, that does it for this IKEA BOAXEL closet reset! If you’re curious how I set up other closets in our house, take a look at these posts:

I’ll also be sharing how I use the BOAXEL system in our primary closet along with the PAX system from IKEA, so come back soon to see those!

Let me know if you have questions about this closet system. My other posts will also be a great resource for you, too.
