Oh, how I love the second trimester of pregnancy! We left off in my last pregnancy post at about 17 weeks. That’s about when the morning sickness died off for me this go-around. I am definitely in better spirits writing this Pregnancy Update at 34 weeks!
Time has been flying since I last updated you all. I’m now well into the third trimester, and the reality of what’s to come in a few short weeks is definitely settling in. Eek! With two other little ones running around, and all of the fun that summertime brings, I’ve not been focused on this little one too much. That is, up until now.

Third Pregnancy Update
Between the nesting and physical changes and feelings I’m beginning to experience, my body is letting me know where to begin focusing my energy in preparation for birth. A woman’s body is truly amazing!
While I’m not optimistic that this third babe will come early, we do keep it in the back of our mind because our firstborn was four weeks early! It was quite an experience. The reality at this point in time is that I’m just two weeks away from the 36-week milestone in this pregnancy, so, uh… we need to get some ducks in a row asap! I’m making a mental checklist as I type this… car seat, diaper bag, crib/bassinet, diapers, pack hospital bag, hospital registration…
How I’ve been Feeling
I’ve felt really well since getting over the morning sickness early in the second trimester. I’ve had energy, not too tired, and have been in good spirits mentally and emotionally. Luckily, I’m sleeping really well still, and haven’t had any other annoying symptoms like swelling or heartburn too bad (I did with my second). We went on a week-long camping trip this past week, and that was really great! I didn’t have any trouble.
However, coming back from that trip I was exhausted. That’s likely due to just coming down from everything, and getting back in the comfort of my own home. I’ve also been getting out of breath pretty easily, and I’m almost certain Braxton hicks contractions are becoming more frequent. Fun fact, I don’t really “feel” my contractions until my water is fully broken and I’m in active labor. It’s more of a tightening sensation for me. Anyone else experience this?
Glucose Test and Summer Pregnancy
Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that I did fail my one-hour glucose test that screens for gestational diabetes. Ugh! This happened with my firstborn, too. I went about a week later and took the awful three-hour glucose test and I passed with flying colors! I was so relieved. While I know it wouldn’t have been the end of the world, I really just did not want to add that to my list of worries and things to manage. Especially with this being my last pregnancy. I’m thrilled to be able to enjoy a sweet treat (in moderation, of course!ha) with the kiddos during these hot summer months!
I’ve heard from quite a few women that they didn’t enjoy pregnancy in the summer months. While I understand, I have to say I’m really enjoying my summer pregnancy! I love not having to get layered up, I can wear comfy clothes/dresses, and best of all, I don’t have to wear close-toed shoes or anything that needs to be tied (currently obsessed with these sandals and these!) Now, I realize I’ve still got six weeks left, so we’ll see how I’m feeling by the end of this. Haha!
Our last weeks as a family of four
Anywho, things seem to be going well thus far. We’ve continued to make progress on house projects, and hope to get a few more things done before this baby joins our little family! That said, Eric and I have also been having some serious discussions on stepping back from house projects, and enjoying time as a family of four in these last few weeks.
While I’m completely torn on this subject (I just want house stuff done!), I do think we’re going to have to let some things go and just enjoy simple family moments instead. It’s such a tough balance! But I know that this time with the kiddos is more important than knocking things off our never-ending to-do list, especially as we make the transition to a family of five.
I’m also starting to get mentally prepped for the impending labor/birth situation that’s about to unfold for me. I forego the epidural for my labors, so I have to get myself a bit amped up and mentally prepared for that. You can read more about that here – Induced Epidural-Free Labor (Yes, you can do it!). But most of all, we’re getting real excited to meet this little bundle and find out if we’re adding a boy or girl to our fam-bam! We haven’t found out the sex of any of our babies. What do you do – find out or wait?!
I think that does it for this 34-week pregnancy update… what else are you curious about or want to know about pregnancy/birth? Let’s chat in the comments!
Thanks for stopping by to read today!
To the Chaos!
