Monthly Shopping Trip Fave Five Favorites - November 2020

Welcome back to another round of Monthly Shopping Trip Fave Five Favorites – November 2020 edition! I did my Monthly Shopping Trip (MST) a little differently this month, and I kinda dig it.

Here’s what I did – I ordered everything on-line for pickup at both stores (Hy-Vee and Sam’s Club). Then, since there are items that you have to go in-store to purchase at Sam’s Club, I just went in for those few items and was able to browse for the fun stuff throughout the store!

This was a great way to do my MST for a few reasons.

First, while it does take some time to get everything added and ordered on-line, I can do that from the comfort of my home on my own time. Second, I save a ton of time actually at the stores, since I don’t have to deal with crowds and lines to check out. And to piggy-back on that point, I don’t have to spend time managing and using the Scan & Go App for Sam’s Club, except for the handful of items I get in-store.

I’ll likely be trying future MSTs this way because it was just so easy. Next time I need to remember to get my ordering done a bit sooner. This month, I had to break it up between two days because there weren’t enough pick-up slots at Sam’s. You live and learn, right?

Monthly Shopping Trip – Fave Five Favorites, November 2020

Okay, enough backstory talk… let’s get to November’s Fave Five Favorites from my Monthly Shopping Trip!

#1 Positively Rocks Activity Kit

I thought that this Positively Rocks Activity Kit was really neat for pre-teens or kids who are really into arts and crafts! I specifically purchased this for our nieces for Christmas. I think (hope) they will love it! I also love that it’s something that they can create and then pass on a bit of joy to others.

Gifts like these are also awesome because it’s something consumable that won’t take up space in the home (once they create and use it). Win-win!

Price – $10.98

I also found the same exact kit on Amazon, in case you can’t find it at Sam’s Club (or aren’t a member). It is about $4 more through Amazon, but still not too bad of a price!

#2 Seeds of Change, Quinoa and Rice with Garlic

These Quinoa and Rice with Garlic packs are so good, you guys! I like to include these with our fish or chicken meals. Each box comes with six packs, and I make two packs each time to feed our family of four, so we get three meals out of one box.

I love that these already include the seasoning (garlic), and two great whole grains to fill us up in a healthy way. It’s also a great benefit to get this on the table quickly and easily. You can either warm it up in a skillet or steam in the microwave in the bag!

If you’re looking for a healthy side for your meals, this is an excellent option!

Price – $10.98

You can also find this brand with many more varieties available on Amazon, which I’ve linked for you here.

#3 ogx Thick & Full + Biotin & Collagen Shampoo

OGX is an excellent hair care line! I have a lot of fine hair, and it always seems to need a little umpf. This shampoo does just that for me. It smells great and it lasts us forever! Sam’s Club also carries the conditioner, but I don’t use conditioner, so I don’t buy it.

Price – $13.98/40oz. (currently on sale for $11.98)

There are also a ton of options on Amazon for this line of hair care. I’ve linked the page for you here. After looking at the sizes and prices, the Sam’s Club version seems like a stellar value for the size.

#4 Hy-Vee Stone-Ground Restaurant-Style Tortilla Chips

If you’re like me, you have a deep appreciation for a really good tortilla chip. I like a nice light crunch to my tortilla chip. But not so light that it breaks easily upon dipping. It also needs to be appropriately salted!

These stone-ground restaurant-style tortilla chips from Hy-Vee are so good! They are made fresh in-house. I’ve eaten them with a variety of dippable foods, and they’re so good with everything!

Price – $3.99

#5 elk & Friends Kids cups

I’ve talked about these Elk & Friends kids cups a few times on Instagram, but thought I’d share them here, too! I was in the market for a more sustainable cup for the kids. We’ve had them for a couple of months now, and I really like them! I like that they are glass, and I like the versatility that is provided with the two different lids.

They can be used to store snacks/foods, or can be used for drinks with the straw lid. I specifically use these for our milk cups, as well as our smoothie cups! The big flexible straw is awesome. They are not 100% spill proof, but we’ve dropped them numerous times now and they’ve not only remained intact, but the spillage was surprisingly small.

I definitely think these are great cups for kiddos ages 3 – 7+. Younger toddlers just tend to drop things more frequently.

Price – $29.99

Bonus Fave – Member’s Mark Soft Plaid Top

The Member’s Mark Soft Plaid Shirt is being added as a bonus this month because I didn’t buy it (sadly), but I did try it on. It was so soft and cozy, you guys. If you need a plaid shirt in your closet this fall/winter, this would be an excellent option. The material is very forgiving and stretchy. It was so comfortable!

I really wish I would have bought it, but I’m trying to steer clear of clothing purchases through the end of the year. We’ll see if I can pass it up again next month. Ha! They have this available in-store in a few different colors/patterns.

Price – $12.98

That does it for November’s Monthly Shopping Trip Fave Five Favorites. I hope you enjoyed this list. Come back next month for more! If you want to see October’s Fave Five Favorites, click here!

To the Chaos!

Just a little PSA: homeownership takes work, especially out on an acreage. If you’re seeing well manicured landscapes and gardens in your feed, let this be a reminder that there’s also plenty of this happening behind the scenes.

Most feeds are a highlight reel; I like to throw in some real-life. If this resonates, follow along for more!

This is the easiest way to deter carpenter bees fr This is the easiest way to deter carpenter bees from areas you don’t want them. They can be very destructive to wood structures, and while they very rarely sting, they’re pesky little boogers.

I’ve added @pinesol to a few empty jugs, for the past few years, where they seem to gravitate (our lean-to) each spring and this works well at moving them along to another destination.

If you’re struggling with carpenter bees in your yard/landscape/property, give this a try! 🐝 You’ll bee happy you did!😉 Plus, it makes your outdoor living areas smell great when you catch a whiff in the breeze!

This is a “Big Picture” look at your life, so you can visualize when you’ll be busy and need extra support, and when you can prioritize intentional down time for your family. This is not a calendar for lots of details, but it does help lift the mental load with an at-a-glance look at life that the whole family can use!

Ah, the “Let Them” theory… I have yet to rea Ah, the “Let Them” theory… I have yet to read Mel Robbins’ book, but I have a pretty good idea what it’s all about.

In motherhood, you have to a strike a balance between control and fostering independence. One way you can do that? LET THEM wear what they want.🙃 Truly. I promise it’s okay. I promise no one really cares. I also promise I have limits and certain occasions where I require the fam to dress “appropriately” for the occasion, but mostly, my kids dress themselves, and we’re all better off for it.

It makes my motherhood so much easier and their childhood more enjoyable.

Getting dressed is one of the first things your kids can do to foster independence and confidence! Give them the boundaries and guidance until they”get it”, and then LET THEM take it from there.

This is my 3 year old. He’s very independent and very opinionated about what he likes to wear (much like his big sister is). So, I stopped fighting him and he pops out of bed and gets himself dressed each day. Has he mastered “dressing for the weather/occasion”? Nope. But guess what, he’ll figure it out with natural consequences and some reminders from mom.

Until then, he’ll be wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and cowboy boots just about every. dang. day. Oh, and socks…must. have. socks. 😂😅🫠
