Hello There!

It really means a lot that you’ve stopped by, so thank you. I hope you find some good nuggets of information to inspire you in your home. At the very least, I hope you can relate and feel connected to my experiences and journey in this new chapter of my life.

My name is Mackenzy and I reside in rural Iowa with my family – I am a wife to Eric and Mama to Myles and Gracelyn. They are 21 months apart and keep us very busy and entertained. We enjoy the company of our pup, Cash, and a few kitties to round out the bunch.

We have a small acreage and enjoy raising our kiddos away from the hub-bub of city life, just as we were raised. It is so peaceful and comforting coming home to this place.

That’s the cookie-cutter version of “Meet Mackenzy”…read on for some truth-telling…

Why a blog?

Well, I’m pretty new to this SAHM gig, I’m on the brink of 30, and I’m pretty sure I’m having an identity crisis. So, what the hell, let’s start a blog and see if anyone else can relate?!

But for real, I’m trying to navigate this new world where I’m now the Mom (weird) and that is my full-time job (also weird). I’m trying to figure out who I am in this new chapter of my life…I don’t relate well to the Mackenzy’s of the past now. I’ve got a whole bunch of experiences and life behind me, but it’s like I’m starting from ground zero again. Who am I? What do I want to become?

Something is missing. I used to be so sure of myself. Confident. I had some spunk and a spark within me. Maybe it’s adulting…that has to be what’s killing me slowly here, right?! ha! Whatever it is, I’ve got to get my groove back.

Maybe this uncertainty is the norm for many new SAHM’s… maybe not, but I’m owning it. I’m going into this new decade fiercely and with some grit to get through the tough stuff.

Since I’m often stuck in the seclusion of our home these days, I’ve become keenly aware of just how great it is to get out and reconnect with my girls! I always feel rejuvenated and less isolated after spending time talking with other women and moms – they just get it. My hope is that this will be a warm place you can land when you need a bit of encouragement and inspiration as you take on your journey into motherhood and beyond.

As a woman and mother in today’s society, it can be really tough to keep up on all the things, all the time… Let’s embrace the chaos together!

If you’re the curious type…

On the off chance you just need to know more about who I am, here’s a detailed (and very random) list:

  • I’m a Leo
  • I can be a really good extrovert. I enjoy conversing and sharing a good laugh with others, but I definitely have introverted tendencies when I’ve had too much social interaction (give me my bubble back!). I can definitely be a loner and enjoy my solitude.
  • I have Hypothyroidism
  • I cuss and I’m not really sorry about it
  • I love to shop, not necessarily purchasing, but my motto is, “If you ain’t lookin’, you ain’t livin'”… Ironically, I only shop once a month for our household.
  • I’ve never dyed or highlighted my hair – like, ever
  • I love to play volleyball
  • I’ve sky-dived with my husband and his family (my stomach drops just typing that… what was I thinking?!)
  • I prefer salty over sweet, hands down
  • I didn’t have an epidural for either child’s birth (fentanyl was a good friend, though. You can read my birth stories here!)
  • I always brush my teeth with my left hand, but I’m a righty
  • My middle name is Grace, after my maternal great-grandmother
  • I have a freckle on the inside of my pinky toe on my left foot (you’re the one still reading here…)

And, if that isn’t enough, please reach out to connect personally. Or, connect through social media so you don’t miss out on all the awesomeness chaos I’ve got going on in my little corner of the world. I’m sure you’ll be thoroughly entertained.

To the Chaos!

Hindsight is always 20/20, right? The more I grow Hindsight is always 20/20, right? The more I grow in my motherhood journey, the more wisdom I have to share…and the more I relax, and remind myself of this exact thing.

It’s all just a phase.
A season.

You blink, and months have gone by. You’re dealing with a whole new set of challenges and milestones to embrace.

If I could go back a tell myself this after having our first, this would be in the top three. 😘💗#motherhoodmoments #midwestmom #iowamom #tiedye #millenialmom #sahmomlife #sahm
Honestly, send help.😆😵‍💫 We are not oka Honestly, send help.😆😵‍💫 We are not okay. This is a lot.😂 I went from having two in school and one at home this school year. Now all three are back home.😅

Here’s what I know: I’m excited for summer, and I do enjoy having them home. But this is a lot, and I’m realizing/remembering just how much easier it is to manage one kid at a time. Two things can be true.😉

Solidarity to all of you in the same boat!🙌🏼

Just a little PSA: homeownership takes work, especially out on an acreage. If you’re seeing well manicured landscapes and gardens in your feed, let this be a reminder that there’s also plenty of this happening behind the scenes.

Most feeds are a highlight reel; I like to throw in some real-life. If this resonates, follow along for more!

This is the easiest way to deter carpenter bees fr This is the easiest way to deter carpenter bees from areas you don’t want them. They can be very destructive to wood structures, and while they very rarely sting, they’re pesky little boogers.

I’ve added @pinesol to a few empty jugs, for the past few years, where they seem to gravitate (our lean-to) each spring and this works well at moving them along to another destination.

If you’re struggling with carpenter bees in your yard/landscape/property, give this a try! 🐝 You’ll bee happy you did!😉 Plus, it makes your outdoor living areas smell great when you catch a whiff in the breeze!

Consider the Big Picture Calendar a seasonal brain Consider the Big Picture Calendar a seasonal brain 🧠 dump of your life! You can order the Base version if you like to doodle and write things in as you go, or you can do the Customized version and send me alllll the things to print on the calendar for you! I also have a digital download version if you’d like to print yourself! 📆

Whichever you choose, just know it’ll be a helpful tool for planning and organizing your summer season that the whole family can use (husbands love this thing!).☀️🫶🏼

🔍The Big Picture Calendar is a large format, customizable calendar built with academic and activity seasons in mind! I include academic dates on the BPC, as well as other life events you’d like included (with limits).

This is a “Big Picture” look at your life, so you can visualize when you’ll be busy and need extra support, and when you can prioritize intentional down time for your family. This is not a calendar for lots of details, but it does help lift the mental load with an at-a-glance look at life that the whole family can use!

✏️Ordering window does close for custom calendars May 18th, but I can do digital downloads and Base versions until June.

Order today, link in profile! Or message/comment for direct link!🙌🏼
Ah, the “Let Them” theory… I have yet to rea Ah, the “Let Them” theory… I have yet to read Mel Robbins’ book, but I have a pretty good idea what it’s all about.

In motherhood, you have to a strike a balance between control and fostering independence. One way you can do that? LET THEM wear what they want.🙃 Truly. I promise it’s okay. I promise no one really cares. I also promise I have limits and certain occasions where I require the fam to dress “appropriately” for the occasion, but mostly, my kids dress themselves, and we’re all better off for it.

It makes my motherhood so much easier and their childhood more enjoyable.

Getting dressed is one of the first things your kids can do to foster independence and confidence! Give them the boundaries and guidance until they”get it”, and then LET THEM take it from there.

This is my 3 year old. He’s very independent and very opinionated about what he likes to wear (much like his big sister is). So, I stopped fighting him and he pops out of bed and gets himself dressed each day. Has he mastered “dressing for the weather/occasion”? Nope. But guess what, he’ll figure it out with natural consequences and some reminders from mom.

Until then, he’ll be wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and cowboy boots just about every. dang. day. Oh, and socks…must. have. socks. 😂😅🫠
